For airport runways either unpaved or paved, the important aspect is to limit maintenance issues that could impact the ability of air traffic to take off and land. It is rarely the loads that determine runway performance onsite, it will be a structural or drainage problems within or surrounding the pavement. The incorporation of pavement reinforcing Geotextiles and Geogrids will limit structural issues translating to surface rutting, and a well-designed site drainage system will limit the damaging effects of water.
